But what if you want to explore more ancient sites, absorb more culture or on the contrary simply enjoy and find more time for relaxation? Then we will design a tailor made holiday for you, fitting your personal wishes and budget. Here you find two suggested itineraries that contain the highlights of Lycia.

You stay in comfortable rooms and may enjoy the comforts of a swimming pool, lush gardens or direct access to the sea. It offers spacious rooms furnished with comfortable antiques, home-made delicious food, a swimming pool and a sun deck surrounded by lush gardens from where you enjoy beautiful views across the sea in the distance all day long.

BEYCIK : The boutique mountain lodge is located on the green, cool and silent slopes of Olympos mountain. Breakfast can be enjoyed outside on the terrace and consists of a very good buffet of fresh local fruits, local breads, eggs, cheeses etc. Dinner is very enjoyable, taken in the dining room warmed by a log fire (in april and october) or again on the terrace facing the swimming pool and gardens. The owners restored the house with great attention to all details and using only authentic building materials such as wooden windows and doors, mudbrick walls and ceramic tiles. With the traditional furniture, lovely carpets and hand-made embroideries the house breathes an incredibly friendly and authentic atmosphere. From the terraces where you can enjoy the lovely cooked meals with mostly locally grown ingredients, there are superb views towards the lagoon and sea.

Located in lovely villages surrounded by trees and mountains or on the coast near lovely beaches, the owners will make you feel at home and part of the family and local community. SIMENA: The only way to reach the lovely pension in Kekova is by boat or on foot. It is ideal for a peaceful stay emerged in nature. You wake up in the quiet morning to hear the waves lap at your terrace as if you are on the deck of a boat. Breakfast consists of regional products and is rich and delicious. The Kekova lagoon that the pension is facing contains the remains of an ancient sunken city and is very clean, an ideal location for a boat tour and a swim in the crystal clear waters just outside your room.

This program covers the region between Antalya and Simena (Kekova Lagoon) the eastern part of the Teke peninsula or Likya, the Land of Light. You will walk sections of the well-known Lycian Way and the newly developed st. Nicholas Way following coastal paths besides the azure coloured sea or moving inland to reach quiet pastures surrounded by pine cladded hillsides. On the way you explore ancient cities such as Termessos and Olympos and marvel at some of the very early christian vestiges of the Demre area, but not without taking time to enjoy the sea and lovely beaches that Lycia is famous for!

Eastern Lycia Tailor Made Trekking Tour Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Meeting at Antalya airport Transfer to the hotel in Kaleiçi, the historical city centre of Antalya (30 mins). You are surrounded by old mansions, hamams and mosques in the small medieval city centre. If time allows we can explore the old city centre. Dinner in local restaurant and overnight in hotel in Kaleiçi, Antalya.

Day 2: Visit Termessos and Antalya Today we explore the ruins of ancient Termessos on the summit of Güllük mountain (Solymeus). Termessos is quite a unique site with its settlement on the steep slopes that offer wide views across the Antalya plain. The ancient city was never occupied by its attackers; even Alexander the Great could not capture it! The necropolis is one of the most amazing parts of the city. In the afternoon we visit the Antalya Archaeological Museum, that displays finds from prehistoric to ottoman times. It is famous for the beautiful statues found at the roman city of Perge. Dinner in local restaurant and overnight in hotel in Kaleiçi, Antalya.

Day 3: Walk Yayla Kuzdere – Beycik (6hrs, 16km) After a transfer of 1 hr. we start walking on the Lycian Way from Yayla Kuzdere (alt: 1000m) up a streambed to the pastures of Çukur Yayla, just below Mount Olympos (Tahtalı Dağı). We climb the pass from here (H: 1950m) and descend via a mule path to the village of Beycik (H: 900m). Overnight in a lovely boutique hotel with pool in the garden surrounded by green pine trees in Beycik.

Day 4: Walk Beycik – Ulupınar (3hrs, 8km) Today’s section of the Lycian Way meanders down towards the coast to the small village of Ulupınar, known for its fish-farms. We will have lunch near the rivers’ splashing water in one of the excellent restaurants. We drive to Çıralı situated on one of the most beautiful beaches of Lycia where you can enjoy an afternoon swim. Dinner and overnight in complex of luxurious timber cabins with private verandas surrounded by orange, fig, mulberry, plum and tropical trees amid the lush, green gardens in Çıralı.

Day 5: Visit ancient Olympos and Chimaera We explore the ruins of ancient Olympos, an important harbour town with remains of public buildings and a cemetery (total walk appr. 6km along the beach). After lunch there is some free time for a swim or other activities (eg. sea kayak). In the late afternoon we walk to Yanartaş to admire the eternal burning flames of Chimaera in the dark. These flames of mythical Chimaera; ‘a landscape of legend’ are a natural gas coming from the bowels of the earth. Overnight in complex of luxurious timber cabins in Çıralı.

Day 6: Walk Belen – Kaklık – Beymelek (3hrs, 8km) We drive via Finike to Belen (1,5hr) and start our walk on the st. Nicholas Way at the tiny hamlet of Belen high above the coast. We descend a centuries old roman road that winds its way towards the lagoon of Beymelek, passing an impressive monument built in 45 AD and dedicated to Emperor Claudius. The views across the coast and the plain of Demre are stunning. Dinner and overnight in authentic guesthouse in Beymelek.

Day 7: Visit Demre and walk Alakilise – Beymelek (5hrs, 14km) We visit Demre (ancient Myra) where besides the ancient town with theatre and cemetery containing over 100 rock-cut tombs a must-see is the Basilica of saint Nicholas. In Alakilise high up the mountain slopes we explore one of the early christian monasteries that the Demre area is known for. From there we descend along the st. Nicholas Way through the forest and pass another ruined church before we arrive at our accommodation in Beymelek. Dinner and overnight in authentic guesthouse in Beymelek.

Day 8: Walk Kapaklı – Simena (3hrs, 8km) We drive to Kapaklı (20 mins.) where we rejoin the Lycian Way. Along sheltered coves and rocky inlets we approach the coastal village of Simena (also known as Kale). This special place sits at the tip of a peninsula and can only be reached on foot or across water. We reach the village at the top of the hill near the crusader castle. It was built on the remains of a big necropolis with sarcophagi and rock-cut tombs and has an outstanding view across Kekova lagoon. Dinner and overnight in family-run pension right on the shore in this unique Mediterranean coastal village Simena.

Day 9: Simena and Kekova lagoon yacht tour We will spend a day aboard a wooden gulet for relaxing with a touch of history. Kekova lagoon is famous for the ‘sunken city’. The ancient houses along this coast sank below sea level in an earthquake in the 2nd century AD and can now be explored under water. We will enjoy many swimming breaks in the turquoise coloured hidden bays. A barbeque lunch on board is included and will be with special appetizers. Dinner and overnight in the pension in Simena.

Day 10: Departure day Transfer (2,5 hrs) to Antalya for departure flight.

This tour covers the western part of the Lycian peninsula from Kayaköy to Kaş with walks on the Lycian Way and cultural visits to the ancients cities that formed the heartland of Lycia. The region south of Fethiye is known as the Seven Capes, a stunning coastline where steep hillsides drop abruptly into the sea. Well-preserved paved foot paths meander along this coast, sometimes staying high above it; but also passing through the tiny, secluded coves with white, sandy beaches that give ample opportunity for a swim.

Western Lycia Tailor Made Trekking Tour Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Meeting at Dalaman airport and transfer to Kayaköy (1,5hr) Depending on your flight arrival time, we can make an optional walk from Kayaköy to Ölüdeniz (2,5 hrs, 8 km). Once a thriving Greek village, Kayaköy has over one thousand houses, two churches, fourteen chapels, and two schools, all in ruins today. It was completely deserted in 1923 following the Turkish war of Independence, when the christian greek speaking inhabitants had to move to Greece through a massive government mandated population exchange between the two countries. Dinner and overnight in friendly pension with large pool in Kayaköy.

Day 2: Walk Ovacık – Faralya (5-6hrs, 14,5km) We transfer to the beginning of the Lycian Way and start walking with spectacular views as we climb the shoulder of Baba Dağı (Father Mountain). We then descend to the small village of Faralya on the green slopes above the Butterfly valley. Dinner and overnight in family-run pension with swimming pool in Faralya.

Day 3: Walk Faralya – Alınca (6-7hrs, 16km) We walk along a forested path passing high above the secluded cove of Kabak. We will have our picnic lunch in the forest and climb up a beautiful old mule trail to Alınca all the time enjoying spectacular views over Yedi Burun (Seven Capes). Dinner and overnight in comfortable guesthouse in Alınca.

Day 4: Walk Alınca – Gey (4hrs, 11km) We walk along the spectacular coastline towards a pasture with an old Ottoman cistern. There we have the choice to descend along a stone cobbled trail to the secluded beach of Kalabantia, explore the ruins of the ancient harbour and swim in the crystal clear waters (adding another 5km and 2,5 hrs to the walk). After returning to the main trail we continue to Gey partly along a quiet tarmac road. Dinner and overnight in boutique hotel in Gey, spectacularly located on one of the seven capes with pool and stunning sunsets.

Day 5: Walk Gey – Sidyma – Boğazıçı (5hrs, 13km) We start from Gey and walk to ancient Sidyma where we explore the ruins of this once huge city scattered around an inland valley and two hills. The village houses are constructed using ancient building blocks; inscriptions, tombs and city walls are visible. We have lunch in a lovely village house in Sidyma. After exploring the ruins we walk down to Boğazıçı village from where our transfer vehicle takes us back to the hotel. Dinner and overnight in boutique hotel in Gey.

Day 6: Lycian Triangle: visit Tlos, Xanthos and Letoon We start by exploring the fascinating Lycian site of Tlos. High up the mountain slopes it has a mysterious feel to it. It was one of the six biggest cities of Lycia and has more than impressive Lycian type rock-cut tombs. Xanthos was the first capital of the ancient Lycian region. It was founded on the river Eşen and gives breathtaking views with the old remains of a theatre, houses and tombs. About the Xanthians some great heroic defense stories in their history can be told. Letoon is a small but important city with three temples that were dedicated to Leto, Apollo and Artemis. The temple of Leto has been re-erected and gives you the feeling of ancient times. Afterwards we drive to Patara. Dinner and overnight in a family-run pension -well known for its great cooking and with a pool in the garden- in Patara well known for its great cooking and with a pool in the garden.

Day 7: Walk Delikkemer – Patara (3hrs, 11km) After a short transfer we visit the remains of a Roman aqueduct spanning a ravine at Delikkemer. It was part of a system that supplied water from high up in the mountains to ancient Patara on the coast. We walk back from the aquaduct to the ancient site of Patara partly following the course of the ancient waterpipes. We will explore the ruins of this important harbour city, where you can admire a theatre, bath complexes, temples and other remains of this once leading city of the Lycian Federation. Visited by St Paul, it was also the birthplace of St Nicholas. We finish the tour with a swim at the white, sandy beach of Patara. Dinner and overnight in pension in Patara.

Day 8: Walk Kalkan – Bezirgan (3hrs, 7km) and walk Çukurbağ – Kaş (3hrs, 8km) After a 15 min. transfer we start our uphill walk just outside of Kalkan. We follow a beautiful stone paved mule trail to ascend to the yayla (mountain pasture) of Bezirgan. At the edge of the green plain we will find typical wooden structures that are used to store the grain supplies of the villagers. From Bezirgan we transfer to the mountain pasture of Çukurbağ. From here we walk downhill to Kaş first through the green pasture and then steeply down the zigzagging mule path to enter the seaside town. On the way we enjoy panoramic views across the coast and the greek island of Meis (Kastellorizo). Dinner in local restaurant in town and overnight in 4-star hotel in Kaş.

Day 9: Walk Kılıçlı – Aperlai (4hrs, 10km) We transfer to the village of Kılıçlı (35 mins.) from where we ascend the acropolis of ancient Apollonia to explore the ruins. Afterwards we descend over mule paths to the seaside ruins of Aperlai. After a swimming break and a short coastal walk we will be collected by boat. We take a cruise over the sunken city in the lagoon of Kekova and disembark at the coastal village of Simena. The houses are built between the ruins of the ancient city and it can only be reached on foot or by boat thus retaining a lot of its charms. We climb to the medieval castle which dominates this remarkable harbour town and walk past impressive ancient tombs to our meeting point with the car near the modern cemetery for our transfer to Kaş. Dinner in local restaurant in town and overnight in hotel in Kaş.

Day 10: Departure day. We transfer from Kaş to either Antalya (3hrs) or Dalaman airport (2,5hrs).
